Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) should be classified as a somatic representation or microsystem comparable to other well-known microsystems such as ear, mouth, nose, hand, or foot acupuncture. Its basic somatotope is located along the frontal hairline, and its Ypsilon points (internal organ points) are located in the temporal region. This is a system that is quite different from TCM scalp acupuncture, a modality that was developed in the 1960's in China and uses needle insertion over corresponding motor and sensory regions of the brain. YNSA is a flexible interlacing method of treatment that requires adjustments depending on the necessities of each patient. Exact measurements and precise locations must therefore be approximate.
